Powerful, intelligent, loving, are
just a few words that describe my four year old red nose Pit Bull, Taz. His
pregnant mother was found as a stray wondering the streets of Baltimore. They took
her back to the shelter where she and her growing pups were deemed for euthanasia.
I first met Taz at a shelter that was filled with animals that had been given a
second chance at life. Molly’s Place saved his family and the lives of many
neglected, abused, orphaned, abandoned or unwanted animals. This shelter is unlike
many others, a no-kill shelter that does not discriminate based on health, age,
or breed. He was born just six weeks earlier on February 29, 2008 along with
his brother and sister. His mother was very gentle, sweet, and affectionate and
after spending some time with her puppies I decided one would become part of my
family. Now that he was home, he needed a name. I decided on Taz, based from
the cartoon Tasmanian devil, because he destroyed everything in his path. Over
the last four years he has developed from an adorable, wrinkly puppy to a
handsome, matured adult. For the most part he stays out of trouble; I have
learned that he needs to stay busy with plenty of toys and activities to keep
his mind stimulated. There are many benefits to having a pet, whether I am
having a good day or bad, I know when walk through the door Taz will be there
waiting anxiously to greet me.
